BBCHS 1987 Bootleg Christmas
I believe this was recorded at First Presbyterian Church in Kankakee, IL in their main sanctuary and children’s library.
I rediscovered this cassette a couple weeks ago in my desk drawer and decided to break out my old cassette deck from mothballs and see what’s what. I was surprised it played at all, but it did. I tried my best to clean it up, but there is some distortion that may be from age or being a multigenerational copy or from some other source - but it gets the point across! It added a bit of nostalgia to my Christmas this year. Decided to upload it so you could reap the same benefit.
At the time, our director was John Kelleher and the school music director was James Stevens, who also played the organ and handled the recording. I believe the piano accompaniment was by Rachel Jenson.
It seems that Candlelight Carol has become an annual tradition at BBCHS. I don’t remember singing it before the year we made this recording, but I’m now old. But I find comfort in telling myself this was the inaugural year.
